Basket #7!

Taken inside the Winter & Horbelt sculpture that stands on the hillside at YSP (Yorkshire Sculpture Park). I think the idea was to produce a modern re-working of the country estate `folly'. These were usually sited on higher ground so that people could view the panorama and gain a sense of the whole estate and the vast wealth of the owner.

It was a beautiful day for a walk and we enjoyed a good lunch in the YSP cafe at the end. A new exhibition of Miro's work is currently on display. It doesn't have quite the same impact as the Jaume Plensa but there are some interesting pieces. I particularly like the smaller scale sculptures made from found objects which have been recast in bronze. They have been painted in very subtle ways and look much more like ceramic than bronze. They are also a worlds away from the garish prints and sculptures that have come to stand as icons for Spanish tourism!

Two exhibitions of Spanish artists in succession - I wonder if YSP managed a job lot!

I need to go back and look some more. More images on Flickr (if I have the time).
