Fishing for a Living

While walking along the giant river that runs through Ningbo, I passed a fisherman like this about ever 15 steps. Some had a bucket with some fish squirming around in it, others still had their pole in the water. There were convenient breaks in the flowering bushes for this purpose, but some people just nestled themselves in the bushes. About every 100 steps was a set of stairs that went down into the river. Some people were using the steps to wash vegetables, other were washing clothes.

The river is central to life, even as life around it has developed with skyscrapers, traffic, and busy city life.
