horns of wilmington's cow

Ray of Light

Beginning of the week
Of which I usually speak
In hushed tones
Not willing it on
Hoping it bides its time
Delayed
Waiting
Then every so often
A Monday comes
That defies all pessimism
That creates a schism
In hatred for the day

-------------------

Always nice when the boss unexpectedly has meetings out of the office in the afternoon. And it's sunny for the ride home. And Mel took the bike to work so I ride back past her work to chaperone her. Not bad all in all, though I'm sure karma will strike back at some point (That glass? Half empty?).

Still, I got word of some proper cashmoney paid writing work today (for a rather niche legal magazine, but hell, it's a brief, and two articles and who knows where it goes from there). And the new Moleskine notebook is awaiting the reawakening of some fictional thoughts (or thoughts of fiction, the thoughts are real, the subject is fiction - I'm confused now...). It takes a while to get back into that mindset after writing factual stuff for so long on cycling. But tonight the first words will be committed to paper, the first words of a long-held idea, and something else to help me realise there's more to life than the daily 9 to 5(30).

And so turning into our street tonight, when I would normally be blinded by the sunlight and complain bitterly, I saw the outline of Arthur's Seat, and a ray of light, that I hope is far from being extinguished, and decided that I'd break the rules in much the way this Monday had and shoot straight into the sun.

EDIT for johnnyboy - the Legal Version of the above:

Whereas

A) It was a Monday;
B) The boss was not in for the afternoon;
C) It was sunny; and
D) Anth (hereinafter referred to as 'Anth') was able to ride home with Mel (hereinafter referred to as 'Mel').

It is hereby agreed that:-

Clause 1: Writing
Anth shall, from such date as to be determined, but to be not later than the date of agreement of this document, write two articles for 'FIRM Magazine' and be paid therefor.

Clause 2: Optimism
Unless, and until, occurence of an incident to render this clause impossible to carry out, Anth shall be optimistic and concentrate on items other than those relating to work. If this clause is rendered obsolete through reason of work, boss, etc. the rest of this agreement shall still be enforceable.

Clause 3: The Sun
Photographs may be taken directly into the sun and all writings prior to this one which state that it may not be done shall be considered repealed.
