Our City of Literature

Greyfriars Kirk

Greyfriars Kirk sits at the top of Candlemaker Row, a mere stone's throw from City of Lit HQ. Robert Louis Stevenson, in Picturesque Notes, wrote of it: 'One of our famous Edinburgh points of view: and strangers are led thither to see, by yet another instance, how strangely the city lies upon her hills.' Literary figures buried within include the bookseller William Creech, poets Allan Ramsay and William McGonagall, and Gaelic bard Duncan Ban MacIntyre. Looking rather eerie in the moody afternoon sun.
