The Kiltwalk

By thekiltwalk

The best sight in Speyside . . . can you see it

One 26 mile Kiltwalk and a Wee Kiltwalk completed and attention turns fully to the Speyside Kiltwalk which is now less 4 weeks away - or 25 days to be precise before some of us do it all again .................. ONLY 25 days GULP!!

So I'm sure you're all still up for it and have dodged the snow showers and have managed a good bit of training and are chasing your friends, colleagues and family and asking them to dig deep to help that thousands of kids across the country who are going to have a bit better chance in life and because of what you're doing - that always works.

We've now reached 470 Kiltwalkers which is an astonishing amount and is almost more than double what we expected and is more than the figure that took part in the Hampden Walk last year, so for an inaugural event is a staggering success, well done Speyside you've done the area proud.

I'll throw in a few interesting statistics at this point. We have 330 walking the 26 miles from Buckie and 140 walking 16 miles from Fochabers. As for who is winning that battle of the sexes, then we have 97 more females than males walking, so guys you've got your work cut out to catch up.

What is even more astounding is that we've had several people who walked the Hampden to Loch Lomond Kiltwalk sign up for Speyside this week!! When we asked them "why, are you mad?" they simply said that they want to keep raising money for Scotland's Children's Charities. So you see this Kiltwalking malarkey is infectious. If you see any of them as you walk the course, afford
them a generous Speyside welcome and a huge pat on the back for their efforts.

If anyone taking part in the Speyside event is reading our Blipfoto Journal for the first time then Jim Hart, who is the Speyside organizer has asked me to ask for some volunteers to be marshals on the day.

It's no more difficult than wearing a hi-vis vest, having a list of key contact numbers in case they see anyone in difficulty and generally being the eyes and ears of The Kiltwalk to alert us if anyone is in difficulty. If you're up for it, please get in touch.

So today's entry is short and sweet as there are T-Shirts to label and pack, pipe bands to sort out and transport to confirm, so I thought I would leave you with the best sight on Kiltwalk Day.

At this point many of you will recognise the Alice Littler park in Aberlour, which is where you'll finish on the day, however that's NOT the best sight you'll see that day.

If you look to the top right of today's Blip then you'll notice The Mash Tun public house where, on the day, you'll enjoy the most rewarding pint you've ever tasted . . . Enjoy!!
