A Writer's Life

The heart of the operation

The thing with book fairs is that they tend to get rather... lonely. Yes, since I have more and more friends who write books, I get to see some of them during these events, which helps. But watching people walk by, stop to look at your book, and walk away (too depressing, too difficult, not "big" enough, as I was once told), might be good for the writer who gets character ideas, but is not very encouraging for the same writer who does not sell enough books.
Anyways. While the publishers and the PR people are buzzing around, too busy to stop by and chat (which is understandable but gets the insecure writer a bit more insecure), we're lucky we have Isabelle. She's truly the heart of the operation: always there, no matter which book fair you attend, she knows your book, because she took the time to read it, and she gives herself the mission of making sure you are comfortable and well taken care of. Seriously, she's awesome!!
