A place in time

More clearing

Following on from our clearing session of 14th April, Mr A went up into the loft today to clear some more.

You would not believe how much "stuff" we have up there! In clearing a very small corner of the loft, we have now literally filled the bathroom and covered the landing with piles and piles of dusty boxes and assorted bags of stuff... Things like old papers that need to be destroyed, clothes, shoes, lengths of wood, assorted soft toys that used to be loved by The Boy, curtain poles, old mugs and crockery sets no longer being used, an old suitcase, empty boxes (that might have come in handy) and lots and lots of books.

Mind you, amongst all the stuff that can be recycled, sent to charity or just destroyed, I have found a few interesting bits.

Like the clothes I bagged up on 1st January 2007, which on investigation turned out to be skirts and jeans that had become too tight to wear but are now fine (after losing 11kg), so they are in the wash to be worn again.

And although I am trying to be ruthless I cannot quite bring myself to pass on my old Snoopy...!

Anyway, one curio that I spotted was this old section of floor board. It would appear to be measurements, pencilled onto the underside of the floor board (presumably at the time the house was built in about 1938) that was taken up at some time, perhaps when Mr A had done renovation work. It is all very methodical, going up in stages...but can anyone guess what the measurements or calculations might be for...?
