Pictorial blethers

And in sad cypress let me be laid ...

This tree is a cypress, drooping beside the track in Kilmun Arboretum. Question: in the words of Shakespeare's song, is 'sad' an adjective qualifying 'cypress', because the living tree droops so sadly, or is it a transferred epithet, implying the sadness on the part of the dead person or (more likely) the mourners?

Either way, it seems appropriate!
