Gwangali Eobang Festival

Every year Gwangali is the centre piece for the Eobang festival which celebrates the contribution fishing has made to the community. There are street parades, music, traditional dances, fantastic food and drink.
The highlight is the net drawing when everyone on the beach drags a big net in from the ocean bringing with it a catch from the watery depths. It's quite intense and gets quite feisty battling for a catch. Last year I got a whopper out of the net which was greeted with a cheer and lots of photographs. This years haul was slightly smaller, but yet again I was in the right place, right time catching one of the fish some guy was throwing from net still in the water. It's about as tribal as Korea gets - it's great with the drumming, chanting and dancing, my kind of thing!
Before the madness unfolded I snapped some of the dancers waiting for the beat. They were quite taken with my cameras - this one out of the drink can.
