when people call you a hero, they are not really saying that they think you are great. They are saying that you have some super-human quality that allows you to cope with the shit hitting the fan better than they, mere humans can. It gives them a reason not to feel inadequate. It means that they don't have to acknowledge what you are doing. It means that they can call on your help whilst never giving any to you.

I got called a hero last week. More than once.

It made me angry. And then it made me ill.
