Just Swell

It wasn't that the seas were too rough.
It wasn't that we couldn't land on the Isle of May.
It wasn't that we couldn't return or that it was lashing with rain or that there weren't enough lifejackets.
But the swell, combined with a low tide, and an old harbour, meaning on the return the bottom of the boat would run the risk of scraping on stuff below. And so, the boat trip to see the Puffins was cancelled. About 5 minutes before we arrived at North Berwick.

We don't have a good track record. It took 3 years and a fourth attempt before we made it onto the Bass Rock, and our two failed goes for St Kilda from Harris last year. So instead we diverted home via Aberlady Bay (though the shot above was on Duddingston Loch first thing as I checked in on the first Gosling arrivals - already down to two from four yesterday...).

A nice day, to be sure (although in typical fashion the sun came out after our Bay wander), but just not quite what had been planned for. Ah well, we'll see how the pub quiz goes later tonight.

p.s. image isn't cropped at all, it really did fly straight at me until the last minute...
