Last Friday evening was the 12th Annual Children's Artwalk downtown, sponsored by Allied Arts of Whatcom County, a wonderful local nonprofit organization. The Children's Artwalk featured art produced by elementary school children (ages 6-12) in 26 public and private schools in Whatcom County.

Their art will be on display through the entire month of May -- which happens to be Washington State Arts in Education Month -- in more than 60 downtown businesses.

We had another commitment on Friday and didn't participate in the Artwalk, so I was very pleased to see this cheerful paper bird, and a whole flock of others, in the entrance to the YMCA this morning as I came in for my fitness class. In case you're interested in what the artist looks like, here's her self-portrait.

There's a good chance that you'll be seeing more from our talented local young artists this month... watch this space!
