Cape Dolphin Sea Lion

Today we went by 4x4 to the tip of Cape Dolphin, about three hours drive from Stanley. It is the most northerly point in East Falkland and is renowned for its sea lions, which were returning to breed. Amazingly they can climb up through the rocky cliff face to the tussac grass clumps on the top. We had to be careful of them, as we did not want to get in their way when fleeing from us to the sea. They were quite skittish and when sensing us would put their noses up, much like this one in the picture.

As well as the sea lions, I managed to get some good shots of turkey vultures and, on the way back, of absurdly confiding grebes on the ponds.
