"A once in a lifetime brush with literary history” (The New York Times)

I love Charles Dickens.  And of all the novels and stories, A Christmas Carol is by far my favourite.  The moment when the Ghost of Christmas Present reveals two orphan children hiding under his cloak, is so powerful an idea that it is as relevant today as it was when it was first written;

This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree; but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.

Tonight, if the New York Times theatre critic is to be believed, we have a brush with history.  Gerald Charles Dickens is the great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens and will perform, in the manner of his esteemed forebear, (i.e., read a bit and then play various characters) A Christmas Carol.  What a treat….,

10.30pm Update.  Wow.  If you ever get the chance to see this take it.
