the wheel has stopped turning

In town today with my boy. Besides the bright xmas lights it was a subdued bustle. It could have been any one of us. That's what the two bizarre tragedies have taught us. A helicopter falls out the sky. A bin lorry loses control and ploughs into pedestrians. It's like a bad film script. No one would believe it if it wasn't actually true.
My daughter missed it by 10 minutes. My niece was there a minute after. A friend couldn't be contacted for an ageless two and a half hours afterwards. It could have been any one of us.
So in George Square, Festivity Central, the lights are off, the big wheel doesn't turn. The painted ponies are still. The ice rink is bare.
It is a tableaux for Glasgow's broken heart.
