Sneaking Out

The hike today began in the town of Zaachila, named after the former king Zaachila Yoo, who ruled the region in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. There is an archaeological site in the town, but is in largely unexcavated partly because inhabited structures have been built on top of the mounds.
Local art students have displayed their considerable talents by painting murals on the walls and doors of certain streets. The theme is the Day of the Dead, November 2, which is one of the major days of celebration in Mexico.
This is one of my favorites, and if you would like to see more of this wonderful artwork, it is posted here
