Diary of an Edinburgher

Total Panic AM/ Total Relaxation PM

Total panic this morning! Could NOT find my lens cap!! I've only had the new camera a week, and this is something you don't want to mislay. After a complete search of the flat, including looking in places I wouldn't normally look in, I eventually found said lens. In order to avoid this accident waiting to happen, I knew I needed a wee thingie to attach it at all times to the camera. And I needed it TODAY.

Another panic when I happened to look at my online bank account. IT WAS NOT THERE!! I rang the bank, and after I had tapped in the account number, they confirmed that the current balance was NIL!!!

Turns out they thought there was a bit of fraudulent activity going on. Indeed the card was declined at the supermarket on Sunday - highly embarrassing. Did they ring to check said suspected fraudulent activity? No. They have sent a letter!! Can you believe it? (Note to self: change banks to one that offers nice rooms with papers, iPads, and free coffee in town and has a sense of urgency about suspected fraudulent activity).

Hot-footed it to the nearest camera shop to get a wee thingie to attach to my lens cap. Funnily enough, they had lots of other goodies there as well. Needless to say, with the card working again, I did not leave with just the lens cap thingie...

Had a wander through town via the Grassmarket and discovered a new cafe which did very passable flat whites and yummy almond, pear and raisin scones. It's only been opened a week and it's in the West Bow. Quiet muzak - Beth Orton - so most acceptable.

The Grassmarket is my blip today. It's another stitch up. I was never very good at sewing at school, but I'm loving it now! The Grassmarket looks quite continental, through half closed eyes. But without the crowds. It's been tidied up a lot in recent years, although I wouldn't like to be there on a Saturday night with the hen and stag parties rampaging socialising. I LOVE the new sensible recycling waste bins - with all the capacity hidden underground- instead of the big black monstrosities blighting everywhere else in the city.

I was on my way to meet up with ex-colleagues at the pub. This is dangerous. (Note to self: Do blip before going to the pub).

Had a great yak with them and caught up with all the gossip. SO GLAD I'm retired. I really admire these women who have a very stressful job, but keep going despite family dramas. They deserve a medal. Or at least more pay.

Off to play with my new new toy. Keep up! :-)
