Large Figure in a Shelter

We woke up to a frosty but gorgeously sunny day, so we decided it was about time to get out of the house and get some fresh air.

We drove up to the Hertfordshire village of Perry Green, home to the gardens of the Henry Moore foundation.  The gardens were closed, but we weren't looking to go in anyway.  We did, however, follow some of the public footpaths around the gardens, which still give access to, or views of, some of the sculptures.  This picture is a detail from "Large Figure in a Shelter", one of his last works.  I love the sensuous, organic shapes and the lovely, subtle variations in the colour of the bronze caused by the winter afternoon sunlight and the weathering of the surface of the metal.

I can understand why these sculptures inspired fellow blipper Keith Knight to his successful ARPS panel.  I think I will return.

After our walk, we enjoyed an excellent hot chocolate (in Christmas mugs) at The Hoops Inn in the village.  Lovely!

Back home now, and the coal fire has been lit, ready to settle down to another cosy evening.
