Royal Spoonbill on the march

Tonight they obliged by coming to our side of the river as the tide went down....wow so nice to be close to them.......they do come into our bay in Port Underwood but their presence there is transitory.  There were 8 in the bunch........highly amusing as they marched into the water, and then side by side they move in unison to sieve the water in arcs through their big flat bills. Their Maori name Kotuku ngutupapa means Heron (Kotuku) bill (ngutu) broad(papa). Becoming increasingly common in some areas they are still considered At Risk...great to see so many of them.
