Dancing on ice

Sheltered areas of the lakes at Ferry Meadows now have a thin covering of ice. This flotilla of coots was trying to swim through, like miniature ice-breakers but eventually resorted to skipping across the unstable surface. It almost looked like a ballet!

Pete and I will be celebrating very quietly tonight, as the boys are going to a Murder Mystery Evening at Lizzy's house. For once I don't mind at all, as  my chest is feeling a bit tight - I just hope it's not the horrible cold that seems to be circulating at the moment.
