New Years Guest

Some weeks ago husband Schorschi was debatting on Blip about the danger to our chickens from the martens which are very common over here. He mentioned my annual attempt to prove that we have martens by showing him the spurs in the snow. He never believes me.

So this year I am recording this on Blip. Unlike a cats print which has four toes, the marten has five.

The stone marten does millions of Euros damage every year to cars in Germany, having a great liking for rubber & plastic parts in the engine room of warm parked cars. 

We have been told the marten does not kill chickens on it's own territory but rather likes to keep them alive so that it can steal the odd egg. Damage to both cars and chickens apparently happens when a visiting marten comes by.

Not sure what type of marten this is.
