Four British Icons in One

This is the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on the left and the Swan Theatre on the right plus a British phone box and a pillar box thrown in for good measure. The two theatres share the same foyer, box office, bars, restaurants and front of house. The Swan Theatre reopened in 1986 and is a much smaller and more intimate theatre than the RST, seating 450, as opposed to over 1,000.  The removal lorry is there I expect to move the RSC scenery either in or out to or from the next or previous venue at the end of a production run.
The Swan was originally the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, but most of it was destroyed by a fire in 1926. My Mother, who would have been 5 years old at the time,  could remember my Granddad standing her on the wall just along from there, watching it burn, while they awaited more help from the fire brigade in Warwick. She said she could remember the engines arriving, being pulled by horses that had galloped the 8 miles from Warwick, and that they were frothing at the mouth with the exertion.
We had a pleasant walk today along the river, but it was very chilly and damp. So chilly in fact that it warranted another hot chocolate from Carluccio's!
We had a lovely Skype session with our son and family late this morning. After yesterday's discussions (on my blip) re jammies and dressing gown, they almost caught me in my dressing gown!
We are all getting very excited about meeting up together in February. Amongst all the normal touristy things, temples, and elephant visits which we will inevitably do, our son has found an action-packed trip to the nearby forests to actually see the gibbons and life amongst the tree canopy, by clambering up high and whizzing around the tops of trees on zip wires, plus walk-ways and abseiling down. I can't wait...................  Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed to take cameras up there (that was the same when we did the Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk a few years ago). I may therefore just have to stay on the ground to do the photography and mind our toddler grandson, who is far too young to take part in the tree-swinging. And I'm far too old :-) I'll let Nikonabike sing "I'm the King of the Swingers, a Jungle VIP."
