Abel Heywood...

Abel Heywood was a Victorian, Manchester businessman. From humble beginnings he made a great deal of money. He was also very interested in politics and became Lord Mayor of the city twice. He was instrumental in building the great town hall in Albert Square and the huge bell that tolls the hours was named in his honour, Great Abel.

While traditional pubs are closing at an alarming rate across the country, a new one has just opened in Manchester's uber cool Northern Quarter. To be honest, it isn't an old fashioned Victorian boozer. This is the N4 after all. It's a gastro pub inside a boutique hotel built into a rundown office building and named in honour of Abel Heywood.
