Classic night

Headed through the Blackwall Tunnel tonight on route to the Excel exhibition centre in the East End, for the preview evening of the London Classic Car Show. I was invited as a guest of Peugeot, Citroen and DS, and so the first port of call was their stand. It was easy to find, with a prominent model of the Eiffel Tower standing aloft above it.

Inevitably thoughts were distracted by current events in Paris, where the real Eiffel Tower fell dark this evening as a mark of respect for the victims of the barbaric shootings. Je suis Charlie.

There was a lot to see at the show, which opens tomorrow and is on until Sunday. We watched a wonderful parade of classic cars through the centre of the show hall, with a wide variety from a 66 year old Series 1 Land Rover to a vintage Bentleys, and including a Mercedes gullying, E-Type Jaguar and a an eye-fetchingly bright lime green Lamborghini.

I'm a bit of a sucker for the beautiful, exquisitely streamlined original Citroen DS, so here is a rare convertible that I longed to leap into and roar off into the night. I wish!
