Migrant in Moscow

At the 17th century New Jerusalem Monastery at Istra about 50km northwest of Moscow.  Currently undergoing extensive renovation, the monastery was occupied by the German Army advancing on Moscow in 1941, and then largely destroyed when they retreated about two weeks later (the monastery had been used as an ammunition dump which was blown up when the retreat started).  Here's an original news report on thr destruction from 22 December 1941.

New Jerusalem is located on a hill next to the town and will be spectacular when restoration is completed at the end of 2016. This is what it looked like before the conflict.

And in old times, circa 1797.

More on the renovation here.

More on Istra town.
