Melbourne

Australia 2013 Backblip #13

A day looking around the centre of Melbourne.

We got the tram into the centre and visited the tourist information. We then walked over to the Eureka Tower to visit their skydeck.

This is the highest public observation deck in the southern hemisphere and so was even taller than the one we went up in Sydney. We took many pictures of the buildings in Melbourne centre including the cricket ground.

After finding some lunch we had a walk through to the Immigration Museum for a bit of history on where everyone in Melbourne came from. The display on the time taken to get down here from the UK was particularly enlightening. In the 1950s it would take you ten flights and five days to get from London to Melborne. The jet age and the Boeing 747 brought this down to about 24 hours.

We then took the free circle tram around the centre of town before dodging the rain and wandering through the Botanic Gardens. We then took the tram back home.
