Sparkling Water

Freddie and I spent the afternoon at the river....he in and out of the water, and me unsuccessfully capturing the wildlife.  Didn't get it right today, the camera seemed all wrong and I gave myself a poke in the eye getting through some foliage to spy on birds.....no harm done , just an excuse ! This is a Diversion from our main river the Wairau  - Wai means water, but this name has several meanings - in the context of the river it is taken to mean many streams because it is a braided river. The Diversion is a man made channel and carries water straight out to sea in times of flood preventing spill over to farmland in the lower Wairau. Home to many bird species it is a great place to spend a day, and fortunately there is easy access to the river bed at lots of places - here it is just below the main road bridge. At the moment the water level is very low following months of little rain.
In the sparkling water it is easy to walk right across at the moment. knee deep towards the other side....a family arrived to swim but really it wasn't deep enough ...dogs enjoyed it - just right, and water warm !
