Meeting an old friend

Spent a lovely few hours relaxing with one of my oldest friends; "old" as in length of time rather than age of said friend. Chatting and catching up over a couple of G&Ts & diet cokes sharing all the latest news. It's wonderful to have touch points that go back almost as far as family links & be able to share & grow together. Some forms of social media are derided on a daily basis but used circumspectly they are a fabulous tool for keeping in contact with both family & friends but nothing quite matches up to spending time in the glorious presence of fabulous real people.
Last night it was my lovely friend, today I'm meeting Mum & Step-Dad and tomorrow one of my sisters. All of these wonderful opportunities around the day my OH got the date for his loop ileostomy reversal; Independence Day - rich with both synergies & ironies. July 4 2012 is approx 55 weeks since the diagnosis of cancer. In that time he's been diagnosed; investigated; successfully treated; learned to live with his stoma and will, with continued luck & amazingly brilliant NHS treatment, have a long time left to enjoy the value of friends!
