Hokey Pokey.......

.....Australian coot style, with the right leg.

Australian coots are self-introduced, common, protected and are classed as native. They belong to the rail family but are essentially aquatic birds, preferring clear lakes and lagoons with borders of reeds and raupo.

Their calls are harsh, uttered as single notes or penetrating 'krark' sounds and explosive 'kut' calls. Coots are distinguishable from ducks with their prominent white frontal shields, pointed bills, overall sooty colour and lobe-webbed toes.

Small as they are, they have been known to attack black swans when protecting their young and territory otherwise they can be quite tame.

Scientific name: Fulica atra australis
Common name: Australian Coot

Enjoy the weekend everyone :)
