And another thing

This is Clematis vitalba; wild clematis or "old man's beard". The trees in the valley are full of it and with the sun behind them it looks as though they have been sprinkled with icing sugar. 

And it's something else we didn't have where I grew up. Although it is native to Britain it is generally found below a line drawn from the Mersey to the Humber. Strangely enough this self-same line is used by those of us from Manchester to determine who is a Cockney - anyone from south of Mersey Square in Stockport - so it's about the same.
