… Stepping Afrika, a step-dance performance in celebration of tomorrow's MLK birthday. And what an energy-filled performance it was too: you can't help but tapping along and feeling good afterwards :)

"Stepping" is rooted within the competitive schoolyard song and dance rituals of historically African American fraternities and sororities, beginning in the mid-1900s. It's a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps, generally in groups of three or more, often in arrangements that resemble military formations. Quite unique to the States.
