Living In The Material World

What a day of contrasts.
This morning we went to one of the Killing Fields just outside Phnom Penh. There were three hundred of these places under the notorious regime of Pol Pot, where he presided over the genocide of twenty five per cent of the population between 1975 and 1979.
I will spare the details which can readily be found on the Internet if you really want to know how depraved and cruel human beings can be.
After that we went to the Genocide Museum and met the two remaining survivors of the camp, gentlemen in their eighties.
This afternoon we visited the Royal Palace, home to a succession of Cambodian Kings including the present one, King Norodom Sihamoni. The Palace complex houses a fabulous collection of the trappings of Royalty, and also a Buddhist Temple.
These three young Monks were having a rest in the shade and were reflected in the stream of water flowing from the freshly irrigated lawns.
