Nature creating art

I was going to inflict another bamboo on you all - one that I grew from seed which I collected in Nepal in 1990, but I thought you might have had enough bamboo. Or you may get it another time!

Today's Blip therefore is of a frond of Blechnum chilense, a native of  . . guess . . Chile! It's a very sturdy and hardy fern, but really pretty rampant, growing to around 4ft high with us, with very thick leathery fronds. I remember seeing it in its native home, growing alongside the roads for mile after mile. This one was a plant given to me by a friend at Edinburgh Botanics as a tiny sporeling many years ago, and I loved the way that falling larch needles had created a zigzag pattern along the mid-rib.
