Armageddon ?

In the foreground, the old vaults of the Exchange station - long since gone and replaced by an NCP car park - are being demolished to make way for modern car parking above which will sit two new office blocks (called "Embankment"). The sandstone facade seen from Chapel St and Manchester over the Irwell will be retained.

The semi derelict Exchange site is heading for a shinier future. One impact of removing so much of the viaduct is that the land beyond will be much better connected to the rest of the City Centre. Expect lots to be going on here now and in future years.
