Above And Beyond...

The Cost Of Paradise

Today is our last day in Paradise. We like Mauritius as the peoples are so friendly and all religions live side by side with no problems.

You can travel about very safely without any problems or hassle. It is quite a mix of villages, towns, etc. What is nice is that as you travel around the island there is a beach virtually every mile.

As the weather turned rainy about mid day we went for our last drive and stopped off at a couple of beaches. The blip photo shows one of our favourites called Pereybeare Beach a couple of miles past Grande Baie in the North West. It is very small but lovely, with great views and local fishermen.

The cost of paradise is £17.33 a month or £4 a week. I take a savings policy out every 6 months and after 10 years they pay out £2K+.  I started many years ago, as did the wife. It amounts to just over the cost of a pint of beer a week.

So when people wonder how we go away so often it's because we had the foresight to save a small amount each week. As we started the policies gradually it's got to the stage we don't even miss the total monthly payments.

Even though the weather has been cyclonic during this visit, we have still really enjoyed ourselves. It's the people you meet, and again, we've made some more friends. We're just off to the beach restaurant for our last meal and then a goodbye drink before we catch the plane early tomorrow morning.
