Sleeping Vishnu

This is the sleeping Vishnu of Budhanilkantha, created in the 7th or 8th centre from a monolithic - 5metre long - piece of black stone hauled here from I know not where. As a non-Hindu I could only view - and sneak a photo - from outside a fence.

I travelled to Budhanilkantha by bus. It cost Rs 24 for the 15k journey - that's less than 20p. Of course most of the people who travel this way are locals.

I did a 15 minute walk up the hill from the village and blagged a cup of tea at a high-end hotel. I would have been happy to pay for my tea, but a westerner willing to take a few brochures is worth anyone's teabag and McVities digestive, so I don't feel guilty!
