Macrotoma palmata

Or large brown longhorn beetle to give it the more prosaic English name. They live up to their billing by being large (around 8cm long), brown and possessed of an enormous pair of "horns" which are each slightly longer than the body. Despite the fearsome looking jaws they're totally harmless, although they are capable of eating their way through solid wood!
