Looking to the future

Today was a day of highs and lows.  Early call from youngest son to break the news that the trusty mini that his father had given him a few years ago had failed its MOT - in a big way.  Admittedly, he had taken it to QuickFit but the estimate of £1000 was shattering.  It looks as though it will need to be sold for scrap.  I push the thought from my mind that youngest son is very, very hard on his cars.  A few others, supplied by the bank of mum and dad,  have also ended in the same sorry state. He now knows that he will have to manage on public transport for a while.
We then heard from eldest son that our lovely 2 and a half year old grand-daughter visit to an opthalmic surgeon and they have been told that she will need to wear glasses until she is at least 8.  She has limited long term vision in one eye.  Obviously, it is not life threatening but is a shock all the same.
High spots were, believe it or not, lunch in the garden - without coats.  The sun was really warm too.
We then visited a group of friends in Brighton who were running a jewellery making workshop.  I have to admit I was there for the ride and the wonderful home made scones provided by the hostess.  It also gave me the opportunity, at the end of the day, to wander on to the pier.  I thought these young people admiring the view provided a nice group composition.
