Rainbow Serpent 2015

Three friends set off on an adventure.  They pack a car with basic camping gear then fill it with costumes, tent decorations, music & hope as they travel a familiar road that always ends differently.  They, along with 15000 others, are on their way to Rainbow Serpent.

The festival is a 5 day roller coaster.  Doused with an intensity brought about by the lack of technology (no phones etc), lack of sleep & the reliance on old fashioned face to face communication, the festival ensures you indulge a range of emotions that too often lie dormant.  It has a way of defining who people are & more importantly - who they are not.  And being located in the middle of nowhere – this is a reality that for the full five days cannot be escaped even though some will run from it. 

Some will just dance & forget the world they live in every other day.  Some will dance to communicate with a freedom rarely afforded to them.  And some will wander the periphery where they blend to become one with a landscape.  They will hear everything on every plane & the noise will be deafening, but it is better to hear & see than not to, even if it is painful on occasion.

All 3 will suffer wounds, heal where they can & rebuild to come out altered, but glad of the experience.  These 3 friends will dance, they will laugh, face fears, & embrace each other in the moment.  They will remind themselves of the importance of living, of seeing what’s actually happening around them & being where they need to be.  They may not necessarily agree on where, but that is not to be avoided.  For one, this is his final journey to this destination for now.  Left fractured by the experience, he makes a life changing decision and begins a new journey.  They will all remain friends but in different worlds.


......You drive up a road.  Anticipation & fear take over.  You turn off your phone and pass through the ticket point.

“Happy Rainbow,” a stranger calls out.  They mean what they say - but you know that they are on the same rollercoaster ride and there is a nervousness in the tone.

“Happy Rainbow” the trio call back....They smile at each other & take a silly picture – it has begun.  Rainbow Serpent 2015.  Time to leap into life!


This blip is 3 friends.  Our beautiful Scatty Matty at his last Rainbow, who we wish well on a very different journey to an uninterrupted tranquillity.  Myself in the middle, at Rainbow because the leap makes sure I remember I’m alive & that here amidst the lost and found, I am not judged. And the beautiful magical Robbie, whose leap is filled with a courage that few realise, a place where he dances & the world dances with him.  An epic journey - we made it.....
