Some members of the National Youth Brass Band

entertained as folk began to gather for the ceremony tonight - nice to see young people giving up their time to be involved....and the music was excellent too. In the background are our Council buildings..........when first built the round structure was nicknamed 'The Milking Shed' in a take off of the latest Parliament building in Wellington (also round) which was called The Beehive'. Milking sheds in those days were round and the cows were on a moving circular platform - very tongue in cheek reference to the ratepayers being milked - although it was rumoured the building was designed round so that staff and councillors could never be çornered' by the milked ratepayers ! Needless to say as new buildings were needed the added wings are all square - how boring !
