Pukekos through the Rushes

Pukekos, or Swamp Hens, are an attractive and beautifully marked bird, native to New Zealand. I saw them this morning, a mother hen and growing chick, right in the swamp and nearly hidden through the rushes.

GingerNan, Spikes2013 and I were visiting the Travis Wetland area, hoping to see chicks.
We did hear, and then see, a couple of teenage black swans having a huge fight! What a racket they were making too.
