Heading Out

The Canterbury Sea Kayak Network held their annual training weekend camp at Okains Bay, on Banks Peninsula, this weekend. The first day’s weather was grey, misty, rainy, wet, with sneaky chilly draughts through the pine trees where we were camping, but great company! Some people were novices and were benefitting muchly from the great standard of instruction and others went up the river when the tide came in, enjoying the scenery and the shags in the river.  I thoroughly enjoyed getting my camera out and making the most of the opportunities!

In this image, two groups are heading out into the small surf to practice paddle strokes, rescues and surfing. There would have been about 60 or so people there, all keen to improve their kayak skills and to enjoy the weekend together.
