Musical May - Top Hat - Fred and Ginger

Probably Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers best known film and with a filmscore by Irving Berlin that restored Berlin's self confidence. Surprisingly it was only very recently made into a stage musical. The best known songs - Top Hat, Isn't it a Lovely Day and Cheek to Cheek.

It is said that the RKO Studio screen test report on Fred Astaire said "Can't sing. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a little." On that basis I might qualify too, but I suspect that his dancing skills were a little better than mine!

Sorry to disappoint Annie and Chris who wanted to see my impression of Angela Rippon (I haven't got the legs) but what else could I do but Fred and Ginger on the 'Big White Set' for Cheek to Cheek.

The Penguin has had a quick sex change, having gone from being Sally Bowles in Cabaret to become Fred Astaire as Jerry Travers, and what else for Dale Tremont (Ginger Rogers) but some root ginger!

We stay with Fred and Ginger tomorrow for Follow the Fleet, which is appropriate as one of the songs in Follow the Fleet was originally written for Top Hat (Get Thee Behind Me, Satan).

Wikipedia sure makes you look knowledgeable if you don't let on. Dohhhh.
