Days of Empire

These three statues stand in the grounds of Belfast's City Hall. The nearest commemorates soldiers killed in the battles of the Boer War, in which my own great-grandfather, Charlie, fought in. The middle statue is the original Titanic memorial which is now complemented by a recently added list of every lost person on board the ship when it went down, on a long brass plaque. Furthest away is the statue of one of the founding fathers of the Harland and Wolff shipyard. I cannot remember the name and I was running out of time this morning before heading off to work.

It was a beautiful sunny day and according to the weather man, it's to last all week here. Time for some barbecuing perhaps!
