Monument to Miners

I stopped to take a look at this monument to miners which was inconveniently situated in the middle of the roundabout between Pegswood and Ashington. We found a side road to park up to have a closer look. I should have done some research before starting to blip. No mines there now since Thatcher closed them. It is a depressed area with high unemployment. It must be 30 years since I was fundraising when we lived in Suffolk, to help the families of the striking miners.

After my hospital visit today, I'm now on the system on the local NHS trust, so hopefully progress will be made. Brain scan tomorrow. Fingers crossed they find nothing too scary.
