Through My Eyes!

sparks a plenty

Was running out of time today to get the camera out, So a quick walk to the beach, set up the camera on a tripod and focused 1/3 of the way into the view, then set to manual and set exposure to 3 seconds.
Then over to the rock armed with a length of chain which i wrapped a piece of steel wool at the end, i teased out a few strands then touched the connectors of a small 9volt battery, this made the steel wool start to burn. i then swung the chain around in front of me and sparks started flying everywhere, a quick press on my remote trigger and the camera took a 3 second exposure!
Looks much more impressive in the photo, but the steel wool doesn't last long. about 3 seconds is a descent burn.
I liked the time of day I took the shot as light was starting to fade over the river Tay, all the lights in the distance are Dundee and just behind the fireball is the Rail Bridge. the sun had just set to the left of this shot.
I may have to try out a few different locations and swing the chain in a different method.
a word of warning for those who wish to try this, Wear a hood or a balaclava as the sparks are flying and extremely hot, they may ignite your hair if a stray spark lands on your head.!
Lucky i've seen this go wrong in the past with other photographers and i was certainly sparkproof!
