New Year, New Life

Victorian gothic

Back of the Archway building of Whittington Hospital, seen from Highgate Hill.
Opened in 1879 as Holborn Union Infirmary. In the 1940s it was merged with three other adjacent hospitals to become the Whittington Hospital.  This building was then sold to Middlesex University in the 1990s when it became Archway Campus, providing education for health professionals. It's been empty since they vacated it in 2013 but has recently been bought by Peabody to be redeveloped as housing.  I went to an interesting consultation about the plans for this last week.  The central building, with the tower seen in this photo will be retained in the new development. Of all the consultations I've been to of late relating to all this current Archway regeneration this felt the most positive.
