Bixley Heath

Occasionally when my car is due for a service I drop the car off and walk the three miles back home, most of the journey is along the side of the road, residential cut through and industrial estates. One small bit however dips through Bixley Heath.

It's a fleeting relief, I always stop and pause on the bridge that crosses the "swamp" to take in the view. Regardless of the time of year it's always stunning.

Bixley Heath is a SSSI, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It's part of the Suffolk Sandlings, the Sandlings walk which runs most of the Suffolk Coast passes through here. The Heath is lowland dry heathland and an area of scarce swamp vegetation. So yes Ipswich does has a swamp
