A little monkey and some monks

We had a wander around part of the old own of Chiang Mai today. It's a lovely old walled city and our hotel is in the old part, and it is really excellent.
It's fairly new but looks like an old lanna style building, built around a courtyard with a huge tamarind tree in the centre.
I suddenly realised our son was grown up (although he has lived in Taiwan for 11 years now and is married with 2 children) when not only did he choose this part of our holiday, but he also made all of the arrangements. And he's made a superb choice. It just seems odd after all these years of being the organiser, to have now reached the age where I can sit back and be organised.

This is Kai sitting on the steps of a wat, eating a banana, oblivious to the Buddhist monks behind him. They have a "chat to a monk" scheme going on at that wat, although we didn't take it up. The structure behind where I'm standing to take this photo was built in the 1300's.
We had a tuk tuk race through the town after this, when we took two tuk tuks to take us to the river.

We've booked a car to take us to an elephant sanctuary tomorrow, which should be a jumbo amount of fun.
