Challenging Islamophobia and random acts of racism

This evening I attended a small meeting at the mosque in Norwich which was the subject of an attack at the weekend where windows were smashed and, in response, several citizens of Norwich 'love bombed' the front door with messages of love and support.

Jeremy Corbyn MP was speaking at the UEA this afternoon so Clive Lewis, Labour candidate for Norwich North spoke to the folks at the mosque and arranged this meeting where we discussed the attack and how we all, as citizens of Norwich, could move forward in challenging Islamophobia and the random acts of racism that are perpetrated far too often.

It was most definitely not a 'party political' meeting. Whilst I would say that everyone in the room was 'of the left' I certainly don't believe everyone there were Labour supporters.  What we did have in common was a strong commitment to standing up to racists and people of violence and that was very heartening.

In this photo we see, from left to right: Clive Lewis - Labour candidate for Norwich North; Jeremy Corbyn MP; Jamal Sealey - Labour candidate for Town Close ward in Norwich.
